Sausage Gnocchi

Sausage Gnocchi is a hearty Italian-inspired dish featuring tender potato gnocchi sautéed with savory sausage and a rich tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi according to package instructions until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to let flavors meld.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Serve hot, sprinkled with the remaining Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For extra richness, stir in a splash of heavy cream before adding the gnocchi, or serve with a side of garlic bread for a complete meal.
