Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup cooked lentils
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan option)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • Burger buns and desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the cooked lentils with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, grated carrot, soy sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, and egg. Mix thoroughly to combine.
  3. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and heated through.
  6. Serve the lentil burgers on buns with your favorite toppings and condiments.

Notes

For a vegan version, replace the egg with a flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons water). Serving with avocado and spicy mayo adds a creamy texture and extra flavor.
