Homemade Bread

This homemade bread recipe yields a soft, golden loaf with a crispy crust, perfect for any meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 30-40 minutes until it has risen slightly above the pan.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Remove from oven, let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For a richer flavor, brush the top with melted butter immediately after baking.
