Garlic-Parmesan Cottage Cheese Bagels

These Garlic-Parmesan Cottage Cheese Bagels offer a deliciously soft, savory twist on traditional bagels, enriched with creamy cottage cheese and a flavorful garlic-parmesan blend.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 cup low-fat cottage cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water and sprinkle yeast over the top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, cottage cheese, minced garlic, grated Parmesan, and olive oil to the flour mixture.
  4. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 6 equal portions. Shape each into a ball and poke a hole through the center to form bagels.
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  8. Boil bagels 1-2 at a time for 1-2 minutes per side, then drain and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. If desired, sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra burst of flavor, brush the bagels with melted butter mixed with additional minced garlic right after baking.
