Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large chicken breasts, cut into strips
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 cups waffle batter (store-bought or homemade)
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Butter, for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken strips in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes to tenderize.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dredge the marinated chicken strips in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
  5. Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  6. While frying chicken, prepare waffles according to your waffle batter instructions until golden and crisp.
  7. Serve the crispy chicken strips on top of the warm waffles, garnished with butter and drizzled with maple syrup.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a dash of hot sauce to the maple syrup or serve with a side of coleslaw.
