  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook orzo pasta in salted boiling water according to package directions until al dente, then drain.
  3. Steam broccoli florets until tender, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until sauce thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Remove sauce from heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Combine cooked orzo, steamed broccoli, and cheese sauce. Mix well and transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  8. Top with Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes
